Handcrafted AMG 4.0L V8 biturbo engine

AMG has developed a high-output yet more compact engine for a new era of performance. The 577-hp 4.0L V8 biturbo engine is more responsive yet more fuel-efficient than its larger predecessor. Its massive torque reaches its 627-lb-ft peak from 2,500 to 3,500 rpm, for a 4.5-second 0-60 time and quick acceleration at any speed. Yet even with its advanced design and technologies, each AMG G 63 engine is still hand-built and signed by its own craftsman.

Three lockable differentials

As you make your way off-road, three sequentially lockable differentials offer increasingly masterful capability. Each differential can be locked in sequence (center, rear, then front) via a set of buttons on the dash, to help maintain the ideal balance of torque and traction for the situation.

AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9-speed transmission

Specific AMG programming of the 9-speed automatic transmission delivers quicker gear changes in the paddle-shifted Manual mode. In the Comfort, Sport and Sport+ modes of AMG DYNAMIC SELECT, the wide range of closely spaced ratios offers smooth, swift response in virtually any driving situation, from relaxed cruising to quick acceleration. Three overdrive ratios enhance highway efficiency. The electronic selector and shift paddles let you control all gear changes with your hands on the wheel.

AMG DYNAMIC SELECT

A selector on the console lets you vary the vehicle's performance character to suit a variety of driving situations and surfaces. Four preset modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport+) alter the throttle response, suspension settings, steering feel, and gear shifting characteristics. In addition, an "Individual" mode allows you to configure a program of your own.

A crisp, high-resolution screen uses a high pixel count, a fast refresh rate and automatic adjustment to ambient light to provide seamless display of entertainment, navigation, comfort and convenience features, and customizable vehicle settings. Linear-style menus are more intuitive and offer easy access via the touchpad controller on the console or the right-hand Touch Control Buttons on the steering wheel.

COMAND system with touchpad controller

The Cockpit Management and Data (COMAND^®) system offers intuitive access to a world of entertainment, navigation and convenience. The central controller falls naturally to hand, teaming an intuitive touchpad with a rotary knob and one-touch keys for major functions. The touchpad responds to a variety of finger motions, including swipe, pinch and even handwriting.

60/40-split folding rear seats

The G-Class accommodates up to 68.6 cubic feet of cargo with the 60/40-split rear seats folded. Floor-mounted tie-downs, a side parcel net, and a 12-volt power outlet add to its convenience.

Power tilt/sliding glass sunroof

The standard G-Class sunroof features heat-rejecting tinted glass. At the touch of a button, the sunroof tilts up at the rear for ventilation, or slides open for a breezy view of the sky. An express feature fully opens or closes the roof with a single touch, and a manual sliding sunshade helps block out unwanted sunlight.

3-zone climate control

In addition to the separate left and right temperature controls, a third zone is dedicated to the rear cabin. Along with fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the system includes a humidity sensor, a dust/pollen filter, and an activated charcoal filter that helps remove odors from the cabin air. The rear-cabin settings can be adjusted from control panels in the dash and in the second row.

AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather

Large, perforated side grips with raised thumbrests, four aluminum-clad spokes, and a flat-bottom design highlight the AMG Performance steering wheel. Nappa leather is hand-sewn to its rim, while its Touch Control Buttons and dual aluminum AMG shift paddles make it as rewarding to use as it is simply to hold. Heating of the rim extends its enjoyment in colder weather.

Blind Spot Assist

When traveling above approximately 20 mph, radar technology can help sense when a vehicle enters the blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then alert the driver via an illuminated red icon in the appropriate side mirror. An audible warning sounds if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot. After parking, Exit Warning Assist can alert the driver or passengers to vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians that could be at risk if the door is opened.

ATTENTION ASSIST

The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST^® continuously monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer more useful information to drivers along their journey via a dashboard display.

PRE-SAFE

A Mercedes-Benz first, PRE-SAFE^® can detect instability during certain vehicle maneuvers that suggest a collision or rollover is imminent. It can then tighten the front seat belts, adjust the front passenger seat, and begin to close the windows and sunroof, all in an effort to better prepare the occupants and restraints in the moments before a collision. If no accident occurs, the seat-belt tensioners reverse, and you can simply readjust your seat, open the sunroof and continue on your way.

PARKTRONIC with Active Parking Assist

Active Parking Assist can search for parallel or perpendicular parking spaces to either side as you drive by. Choose a space to pull or back into, and it can expertly steer and brake for you. When it's time to leave, it can also steer you back out. In any low-speed maneuver, PARKTRONIC sensors in the front and rear bumpers can help detect nearby objects within their field of view. Audible signals and illuminated displays in the cabin can help you navigate tight spaces with confidence.
