The seamless power and natural balance of an inline-6 have returned to the Three-Pointed Star with another Mercedes-Benz tradition: a technological leap forward. The lightweight, fully beltless engine is also electrified, with an Integrated Starter-Generator that can supply up to 21 hp, allows fuel-free coasting, and can recapture energy during deceleration. Even on its own, the twin-scroll turbocharged gas engine outputs 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque for smooth, efficient response.
Electrifying the inline-6 gasoline engine is an innovative Integrated Starter-Generator. It teams with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery to supply power for formerly belt-driven components like the water pump and air-conditioning compressor, reducing weight and enhancing underhood packaging. In addition, the electric assist can generate additional, gas-free power and torque for immediate response.
An advanced torque-vectoring system adds control and precision in turns via targeted rear-wheel braking. If the vehicle's Electronic Stability Program (ESP) detects understeer while cornering, Dynamic Cornering Assist applies the brake to the inside rear wheel, temporarily shifting torque distribution in favor of the outside wheel. This causes the vehicle to gently pivot in response, putting it on a line of travel, or vector, better suited to the turn.
A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the flip of a switch. Four modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+) alter the throttle response, shift points and steering effort, and available AIR BODY CONTROL suspension. A fifth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own, even letting you set the transmission for manual shifting.
A power rear wind deflector is part of the AIRCAP® system for calming top-down turbulence.
Aerodynamic AMG® wheels and sculpted bodywork help the E-Class Cabriolet slice through the wind.
Top-up, the E-Class Cabriolet offers generous glass area for a more coupelike cabin feel.
The intuitive touch controls of the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) put countless features at your fingertips. Dual digital displays include a central touchscreen. Apple CarPlay™, Android Auto and wireless charging are standard.
One of the most respected makers of handcrafted high-end home audio, Germany's Burmester® has developed a surround-sound system that's specifically tailored to the E-Class. With 13 high-quality speakers and a 590-watt, 9-channel digital amplifier, the system fills the cabin with pure surround sound while seamlessly compensating for ambient noise. Exquisitely detailed aluminum speaker grilles are as rewarding to the eyes as the system's output is to the most discerning ears.
Advanced NFC technology allows wireless charging of a compatible phone or other device that supports the Qi standard. An inductive tray in the console lets you charge your device's battery as you drive, without plugging it in. Pairing your device with the vehicle can be performed by simply holding your device near a pairing point in the console. Once paired, your vehicle can recognize when you enter the car with the device, and quickly establish secure wireless data transfer automatically.
Separate left and right temperature controls allow the driver and front passenger to enjoy personalized comfort. In addition to fully automatic or manual control of blower speed and airflow distribution, the system includes a dust and pollen filter that helps keep particles as small as 0.0002-inch from entering the cabin.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
Integrated behind each rear seating position, pop-up roll bars can deploy within a third of a second of detecting an impending rollover, to help preserve occupant space.
At most driving speeds, radar technology helps sense when a vehicle enters your blind-spot area. Blind Spot Assist can then automatically alert the driver via an illuminated icon in the appropriate side mirror. The system can also give an audible warning if the driver activates a turn signal while a vehicle is detected in the blind spot.
The first system of its kind, ATTENTION ASSIST® continuously monitors up to 70 parameters of driving behavior, and can automatically alert the driver with both visual and audible warnings if it detects signs of drowsiness on long trips. With enhanced sensitivity, the system can also help detect drivers who begin their trip drowsy, and offer more useful information to drivers along their journey via a dashboard display.
Radar-based technology can alert you if you're approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as you start to brake, it can automatically provide an appropriate level of braking to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. If you fail to respond, it can also initiate braking automatically at a range of driving speeds. The system can also detect and react to crossing pedestrians at typical city speeds.
