With a greater range of ratios and shorter steps between gears, the new 9-speed automatic changes gears more quickly but nearly imperceptibly. Along with a more seamless delivery of power, the lighter, more versatile transmission offers quiet comfort and efficiency on the highway. The electronic selector and shift paddles let you control all gear changes with your hands on the steering wheel. And drivers can vary the shift modes via the innovative DYNAMIC SELECT system.
A multimode drive program selector on the console lets you transform the car's character with the flip of a switch. Four modes (ECO, Comfort, Sport and Sport+) alter the throttle response, shift points and steering effort and ECO Start/Stop. A fifth "Individual" mode allows you to create a mode of your own, even letting you set the transmission for purely manual shifting.
The 4-wheel independent suspension features a redesigned 4-link front axle with lightweight aluminum components, and further evolution of the standard-setting 5-arm multilink rear design.
The 241-hp 2.0L inline-4 turbo engine in the C 300 combines numerous advances to deliver more power from less fuel. Its rapid-multispark ignition and high-pressure Direct Injection can fine-tune themselves in milliseconds. Its turbocharger spools up quickly to boost response, helping deliver all of the engine's 273 lb-ft of torque at just 1,300 rpm. Widely variable timing of all 16 valves and innovative 3-phase cooling team up to reduce emissions, raise your emotions, and rush you from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.9 seconds.
Bold and muscular yet flowing, the sporty standard lower bodywork looks as if was sculpted as much in the gym as in the wind tunnel. Large mesh air intakes underscore the wide, slatted grille with its integrated Star. Chrome details add subtle highlights to the car's athletic shape.
Crisp, bold and sporty 17-inch alloy wheels feature five sets of thin spokes with a shimmering machined finish and grey-painted inlays. They're outfitted with all-season Extended Mobility tires.(Models with Extended Mobility tires are not provided with a spare tire.)
Offering both front- and rear-seat passengers sweeping skyward views, this fully functional glass sunroof features a front panel that can either tilt up for ventilation or slide over the rear panel for an open-air feeling. Dual interior power shades with controls allow the driver and each rear passenger to adjust the amount of sunlight entering the cabin.
Whether you're stuck in traffic or stopped on a hill, the HOLD feature lets you keep the brakes applied without your foot on the brake pedal. After bringing the vehicle to a stop, an additional press of the brake pedal activates the feature and illuminates a
HOLD icon in the instrument cluster, letting you know you can relax your foot. The brake lamps stay illuminated while the car remains braked. When you're ready to move, just press the accelerator to release the feature and go.
A pair of crisp, high-resolution screens use a high pixel count and automatic adjustment to ambient light to provide seamless, animated display of entertainment, information and vehicle settings. Atop the central dash, a 7" freestanding screen vividly presents audio, optional navigation and other features while keeping a sleek dash profile. In front of the driver, crisp analog gauges flank a color screen with illustrated menus and sharp text for driving systems, settings and more.
Power front seats feature intuitive, seat-shaped controls on the door, plus a 4-way power lumbar support. To set and save your ideal driving position, a memory system for the driver seat recalls three stored positions for the seat, plus the positions of the 4-way power steering column and side mirrors.
The rear seatbacks fold down in a 40/20/40 split, offering a variety of cargo and passenger configurations. You can also fold the center section independently, to fit longer items like skis between two rear passengers. The release handles are in the trunk, so they're conveniently located where you'll need them, and can be kept out of reach simply by valet-locking the trunk.
All new Mercedes-Benz vehicles are protected by our New Vehicle Limited Warranty, covering defects in material or workmanship for 48-months or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. For added protection, the Mercedes-Benz Extended Limited Warranty offers continued peace of mind with prolonged coverage tailored to your needs.
An advanced system of eight air bags offers 10-way occupant protection. Dual two-stage front air bags, combined thorax/pelvic bags for driver and front passenger, knee air bags for the driver and front passenger, and side curtain air bags for both seating rows are standard.
Radar-based technology alerts you if you're approaching a vehicle ahead, or even some stationary objects, at a speed and distance that suggest a collision is likely. As soon as the driver starts to brake, the system can automatically provide an appropriate level of braking to help prevent a collision or reduce its severity. If you fail to respond, the system can also initiate braking automatically from speeds up to 65 mph, and can activate the features of PRE-SAFE®.
Interpreting information that is continually supplied by the car's Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), electric power steering and suspension sensors, Crosswind Assist help detect the effects of strong side winds on the vehicle's handling stability at highway speeds. Whether caused by lateral gusts or even a passing truck, the system helps keep the car on course via strategic braking of the wheels on one side of the vehicle.
Arguably our most important passive safety feature, all four 3-point seat belts are equipped with Emergency Tensioning Devices (ETDs) and belt force limiters. If a collision exceeds a preset threshold, ETDs instantly remove slack from the seat belts. Belt force limiters allow a slight amount of give in the seat belts, to reduce the peak seat-belt forces on the occupant.
